2009 in Review

I had to work last night until midnight (which meant that I got to see the fireworks shooting out of the Space Needle in my rear view mirror as I sped off at 12:01 a.m. to beat traffic), so I didn't get to do the year in review and decade in review posts that I had wanted to! Enjoy!

We started the year with had two showers for Sora and Maleah was busy nesting. Being super pregnant looks like hard work!

In February, Sora Grey was born. The highlight of the year, really.
In March, we took Sora for her first overnight trip to Ellensburg.
April was when the snow finally stopped and we made and planted our new garden.
In May, Maleah went back to work, giving the grandmas and Kyle more of an opportunity to take care of Sora.

June found us going on fun local adventures with our happy baby.
There was a heat wave in July, so we went to the San Juans to cool off. Sora was in her first parade, and we also watched a few as well!

August was Sora's First Food party. She "enjoyed" avocado.

In September, Sora started crawling and swimming (or at least swim lessons).
October found us at our first annual Team McPherson harvestfest.
November was Sora's first Thanksgiving - she LOVES turkey!

And, December has given us Sora's first Christmas and present-opening experiences.

It's All Fun and Games

video

On our way home from dinner, we found Sora's most impressive baby trick yet. Sora and I were playing peek a boo, and she decided that she wanted to be in charge of when she peeks and when she boos. Her favorite tool so far seems to be a lovey blanket that she got from Mimi, but she has also played with daddy's hat and a towel, so she's not too picky (like a good McPherson).

We apologize for the darkness of the video, but we think that you will still be able to see the overall cuteness factor (which we're sure you'll agree is very high).

Breaking News

Sora's first tooth is finally making an appearance. It's not here yet, and who knows how long it will take until it's debut is complete, but both Kyle and I have felt its presence just below the surface of Sora's gums. It's true - she apparently will not be toothless forever. We will keep you updated on the progress.

Happy Holidays

Sora survived all of the holiday parties like the true socialite she is.

We started off with a party with her baby group. It was the first time she got to wear her fancy dress, and although she was a little overdressed (ready for baby prom), she looked adorable. It was also the first time she opened a present. We had a gift exchange for the 7 babies. We set all of the wrapped presents on the floor and let the babies have at them! She chose the largest present (good taste) and then tried to lick the wrapping paper off. She liked the paper and ribbon more than the presents, but is having fun with her little corn popper.
We had Christmas Eve at our house, which went really well. My parents, brother, sister-in-law, and niece, as well as Kyle's dad and Debra and son-in-law, made our home full, but dinner went well and Sora had fun with all of the grandparents and cousin. Kylie came last year for Christmas, but had never met Sora before and was so sweet and gentle. At one point, Kylie accidentally dropped a box on Sora's head and Sora started crying. It was an accident, and Sora was fine, but poor Kylie was so upset to see that she accidentally hurt baby Sora. It was sweet to see how much she loved her! She kept saying "I miss you baby Sora".

On Christmas morning, Santa left a present for Kylie and Sora under the tree and stockings for everyone! We rushed off for Christmas at Kyle's sister's house to spend it with her family and Grandma and Granpa Barneycastle.. Sora had fun playing with Dylan and keeping up with all of the excitement.

Overall, it was an amazing first holiday for Sora. I'm already planning for next year! Yesterday we went to the Apple store (and now our computer is finally completely fixed), and while we were at the mall, I stopped and bought a holiday dress for Sora for next year. Look forward to seeing her in toddler prom gear next December!

Sora is just getting over her first major cold. She has a nasty cough and had a fever on Thursday. After much debate (and many mind changes), we decided to still go over the mountains this past weekend to spend a wintery weekend with Kyle's family. Even though Sora wasn't herself, she was in a pretty good mood. She had a lot of fun with her grandma and grandpa and Kyle's cousin's 5 year old daughter (who introduced us to all of her imaginary friends). We had so much fun we forgot to take out our camera!

Here she is getting ready for the party with grandma's lipstick.
Here she is opening her present from great-grandma (notice the adorable owl pajamas - we both have a pair so we match! Look for many more pictures of this adorableness soon!).

fatherhood Just Never Stops Rocking Part five

Well I have had the pleasure of staying home with Sora extra lately. It has been amazing to get to see her developing a fun personality. She is learning new things everyday. Her curiosity is never ending and she seems to burn through new toys and activities so fast. She is cute and wonderful. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the past few weeks.

Sora loves to cruise along the couch practicing her walking.
My girls all bundled up for a winter walkSora is mastering staring contests. She beats me most of the time. Seriously she like never blinks.
She spends a large portion of each day trying to figure out how to break through the child locks on our cabinets. So far they have held but I have my doubts that they will survive the winter.
Awesome bed head.

Possibly my all time favorite picture of Sora. I am not sure why but this just seems to capture her personality right now.
MMMM light tastes good
She is a big fan of helping mom. She loves to take everything out of the drawer right after mom puts it in. It is a game that highly entertains me.

That is all for now. Thank you all for your support and we hope everyone has a great christmas. Also happy Chanukah, happy Kwanzaa and a nice winter solstice.

Kyle

10 months and counting!

Sora is turning into such a big kiddo! She's nearly a toddler - it really has gone by too fast! Over the past few weeks, she has perfected her cruising (but no free standing yet), learned to feed herself and now no longer eats any purees, started becoming more verbal and understanding games that we play (like follow the leader), has continued in her terrible sleep habits, and has grown even more adorable (like that's possible)! We are having some issues with her afternoon nap being at the wrong time and messing up our evening, so we've been playing a lot at home lately rather than going anywhere exciting (plus, it's an arctic blast outside).

The holidays are in full swing at Team McPherson. We bought our first tree at Ikea. I made us each an ornament - my mom had a tradition that everyone had a theme and got a new ornament in their theme each year. Sora's theme, of course, is owls; Kyle's is sports; and mine is crafting. I had fun making our first ornaments and our tree actually looks kind of cute (for being made of Ikea and DollarTree).

Technical Difficulties

Our computer is temporarily down, but should be fixed by the end of the week! Look forward to more pictures and stories about Sora soon (including her 10 month update)!

Daddy Games

It is so fun to watch Sora play with Kyle lately. She's becoming more and more interactive, and they are hilarious together. Kyle and Sora love to play follow the leader where Kyle crawls around throughout the house with Sora right behind him. They also play Papa Bear and Sora Bear where Sora crawls underneath Kyle. My all time favorite game to watch is Sora Detective where Kyle finds crimes for them to solve. Last night, they solved the crime of who left out a toy. Sora searched for clues all over the living room, with Kyle right behind her. It's hard to describe how funny and adorable these moments are, but they are exactly what watching this amazing duo is all about!

Turkey Time

Happy Thanksgiving! We headed up to my parents house for the weekend and Sora seemed to love the holiday as much as her daddy. Kyle made a delicious meal, as always, and it was nice to see some cousins who hadn't seen Sora yet. She loved feeding herself the turkey, but wasn't a fan of the baby pumpkin pie I made (pumpkin, plain yogurt, and some spices).
She seems to be liking baby food less and less and wanting to feed herself more and more. She still doesn't have any teeth, so it's challenging to find the right things she can feed herself. She loves rice puffs, and now turkey. We also gave her tofu last week that she made funny faces at but couldn't stop eating (kind of like her daddy). The only downside to the weekend was that Sora was having so much fun that she didn't want to sleep. She was pretty happy, so we let it slide, but she's been sleeping a lot since we got home trying to catch up!
