Happy Halloween

Since Sora is only 8 months old and doesn't know what Halloween is, we aren't bothering with dressing her up this year (and probably not next year either - I don't want to torture her with all the candy that I wouldn't let her have anyway). However, thanks to Annie Ring, we do have a super cute Halloween outfit.
To show off Sora's cuteness, we decided to check out one of the nearby baby cafes. There are three or four of these cafes in our county (none in our city surprisingly) that offer a play area for crawlers - kindergardeners and an adult area to drink coffee. Most charge an hourly fee, in addition to the drinks, and are closed on Sunday. The one we went to was the only one open on Sunday, and was free (other than the drinks and cookies, which were delicious). Sora loved it, and, other than trying to overtake another baby who was doing some tummy time nearby, it was a raving success! We're excited to try more baby cafes!

Born with Gills

After our successful swimming trip over Labor Day weekend, we decided to try swim lessons. We've been going once a week since September, and our last lesson is next week. Sora seems to really enjoy herself - she never gets upset with water in her face or putting her ears under water.
We've learned a lot of cheesy songs, and Kyle and I have secretly had fun too! The only disappointment is that in the past 7 weeks we've had like 6 different teachers. Although, Sora's not at the stage where she can follow directions yet anyway so there isn't a lot of "teaching" going on.

Crawling Machine

Sora is officially crawling, cruising, and pulling herself up to standing all of the time! Last week, I went into the bathroom (where she couldn't see me) and she followed me around the corner and through the hallway. She loves being held, so now that she can crawl to where ever we are, she's getting all of the holding she needs (she was before, but now it's more obvious when she needs it). She is also rapidly becoming a momma's girl (at least for now - sorry Kyle!). When she's upset or cranky, the only thing that makes her happy is me (her mommy). It's heart warming, but when I have to go to the bathroom and I hand her off to Kyle, it's frustrating that she gets so upset.

So today we were invited over to Nick and Willa's house to watch the Seahawk game. I was super excited because Sora is finally big enough to wear her fantastic cheerleader outfit. She was the star of the show. Maleah and I put on our best Seahawk gear as well. During hlf time we had some great fun swinging at the park.

My Daughter's Famous!

After seeing an adorable picture of Sora (yes, they're all adorable) on this very blog, Kyle's boss asked if they could use her adorable face for their quarterly recreation guide. Knowing that we have such loyal fans up in Skagit county warms my heart.

With a face this cute, I'm sure this is only the first in a long line of famous shots to come (and grandparents, I promise I'm sending out the rec guides to you soon!).

My daughter's a model!

So as some of you know we had some pictures of Sora professionally done a few months ago. We have just recently receive a disk with the long awaited results. As we expected they turned out marvelous. Sora is photogenic at an amazing level. We have included a few limited release sneak peek photos here for you all. Be assured these are just the tip of the iceberg with better yet to come. Special thanks to Maleah's mom for talking to a total stranger in line t the ice cream store while watching Sora. That stranger turned out to be a fantastic photographer. If anyone would like her information let us know. She is very nice and reasonable.

Congratulations Kjerstin & Pat

This weekend, the team packed up and headed over to Eastern Washington for my old friend's wedding (she's not old, we've just been friends since college, so for me that's old). The wedding was totally different then the one we went to last weekend, but it was very beautiful and the bride and groom looked lovely (of course). Sora loved staying at Uncle Rick and Aunt Sue's house (and Kyle was mesmerized by their TV until he realized that it didn't show UW games).

Sora was a total party girl - she hung out with us at the rehearsal dinner, while we girls got our hair done in the morning, and of course during all of the dancing at the wedding. She did have to nap about half way through the celebration - but was in an amazing mood the entire time (everyone kept mentioning what a great baby she is, and they are right!).

8 months

Sora is now 8 months old. The past few months have flown right by!

She is currently:
  • eating 3 solid meals a day. She loves bananas, broccoli, yams, carrots, apples, pears, peas, and beans. She is not such a fan of rice, millet, or avocado. She can't stand mango.
  • sitting up all by herself.
  • pulling herself to standing in her crib and at the couch.
  • wearing 6-9 mo. (but they're starting to get too short) and 6-12 month clothes.
  • crawling short distances.
  • still without any teeth.
  • experiencing separation anxiety. She is starting to realize that when she goes to Mimi's, dad leaves for the day and she doesn't like that concept. She also realizes that food comes from mommy and so does comfort. At night, if Kyle tries to console her she has none of it.
  • most happy when being held or when we're playing with her on the floor.
  • putting everything in her mouth. I feel like this stage will last for a long time.
  • loving her swim lessons. Yesterday, she was the example baby for the teacher (and she was a very good, happy example). She still squeezes into her 3-6 mo. swimsuit so that everyone can tell she's a girl (because her swim diapers are white).
  • still sleeping 8-6:30; waking up 3-5 times a night and taking 2-3 naps during the day.
  • about to get her first haircut! Her hair is getting long and is looking crazy in places (Kyle likened it to Albert Einstein!). Hopefully I will be able to make it look more presentable.

First Baseball Game

We have been waiting all year for this - Sora's first professional sporting event. Kyle took Sora and met up with the dads and babies in our parenting group while I enjoyed some baby-free moments. Sora apparently was very interested in the people around them, and it was quite a sight to see the seven dads with the seven seven-month-olds. It also happened to be the last game of the season, and an emotional game for Kyle as a Seattle sports fan, which I'm sure made it even more special for the two of them.
(Yes, Sora's wearing next summer's tank top over this summer's romper... at least she got a new hat out of the deal).

Congratulations Tasha & Cailen

(Tasha and Cailen - a preview of one of your wedding presents - I hope you open it before your honeymoon so you can wear them on the plane!).

Last night, we took Sora to Kyle's cousin's wedding. We have been waiting all fall for this event and it didn't disappoint. The only sad part was that we lost our battery charger, so I was too stingy on when the camera could be turned on and have no pictures of the actual wedding. You'll have to take my word on it - it was stylish, chic, and fun. Sora's favorite part was the personalized quiet box that each kid got (Sora chewed on the teething toy from her box the entire wedding ceremony), dancing with Kyle, and of course all the people watching.

It was great to see some of Kyle's relatives that we don't see very often, including a baby who is just a few weeks older than Sora. Sora loved playing with all the girls.

Kyle's favorite part was the food, free beer (the way to his heart truly is through his stomach), watching his cousin (pretty successfully) trying to convince him that her wedding was the coolest he had ever been to, and dancing with Sora.

It's hard to see how truly fancy our family got for the occasion, but we were looking nice.
We have another wedding next weekend, so hopefully Sora enjoys her self as much (and hopefully it's as much fun for the rest of Team McPherson as well).
