Saturday Adventure

Kyle, Sora and I took advantage of a free morning by exploring some nearby neighborhoods. We drove out to Mercer Island, but Sora fell asleep, so we just drove by all of the fancy houses and chose where we were going to retire. We were surprised at how wooded and nature-filled it was! We were also surprised at how few places there seemed to be to go window shopping.

So, to fill our window-shopping desire, we headed out to West Seattle. Sora woke up and joined in on the fun by being carried and also by walking a fair bit. It's a good thing she wore hard-bottomed shoes since the ground was so wet! Kyle and I enjoyed a cupcake and coffee, and Sora had fun playing with all of the toys at the toy store and a consignment store (you know how much I heart consignment stores!).

Sora's eyeing that cupcake pretty seriously... she's a strong girl to wait until her birthday to have one!

Big Time Player

So recently playing with Sora has become much more fun. She has been standing and walking much more. We have also been exploring the fun of her room. She loves playing with the set of blocks that dad and grandpa Pullar made for her. She learned how to stack the blocks on her own. Prior to this she just knocked them over. Enjoy some pics of the fun.

Notice how she is standing next to her fancy new chalkboard table that her loving father made for her. She can't actually have chalk yet because she eats it. Later on she will love to draw all over this table.

2010 Random Sora

Here is some of Sora's 2010 best pics. So far 2010 has been big time. Sora has started to walk and stand like a champ. She is also learning how to stay up late, be a bit more of a picky eater, gotten teeth and began to put toys back as well as take them out(Yeah).

Family Dinner

So it just so happens that me, aunt Kami and grandpa Kelly all of have January birthdays. So grandma and Grandpa came over to Seattle last weekend so we could all get together for lunch to celebrate. It was great for Sora to get to see everyone. We went to Ray's Cafe and Sora got to order her own item off the menu. She had the $1 steamed vegetables off of the kids menu. It was a great meal for all of us. Sora had a bunch of fun seeing cousin Dylan. Dylan was nice enough to give Sora a big box of her old toys. This included a winnie the pooh car that Sora loves to play with. Overall it was a great weekend.

Exploring

Sora has just discovered that when she lets go of a toy, it still exists. She has been exploring the world of where to leave toys the past day or so and it's so adorable. She loves leaving toys in daddy's mouth (he's trying to help her learn how to correctly put toys in his mouth and not just on his face). She also is putting toys on top of other toys and seeing what happens. My favorite is when she puts toys back in the toy bin. Of course, she takes them right back out, but maybe this is the first step in teaching her how to pick up after herself?!

Sora's First Steps

were earlier today while Maleah was vacuuming and Sora and I were in the bedroom (because Sora is so afraid of the vacuum). She walked 6 steps towards me and has strung together 2-4 steps multiple times since. It won't be long until she's officially a toddler and no longer a baby at all!

11 months

Sora is just one short month away from being 1!
  • She is now fully teething and has one tooth JUST above her gum.
  • She is eating everything she can get her hands on, and loves salmon, tofu, broccoli, and pretty much anything else she gets to eat. She does not like food very warm, and is not a fan of mango.
  • She is eating 3 meals a day, and we're just starting to give her an afternoon snack. She gets very hungry in the afternoon and loves to play with her food in her high chair. She tries to drop some on the floor so she can have it later, but Kyle and I are pretty diligent about sweeping up after her.
  • She loves to put things in her mouth, but also likes to play games (peek-a-boo, feeding daddy, follow the leader, Sora Detective, etc).
  • She can stand up by herself for 30 seconds at a time, and has taken her first step!
  • She sleeps really well for Mimi during the day, but not so well at night (or for us when we're at home with her). She's still taking 2 naps per day (for the most part).
  • She loves watching other kids and is having more fun now on play dates. The only problem now is that she likes to take toys that other kids are using (why wouldn't she - they're showing her how fun the toy is!). She doesn't understand the concept of ownership, so we're not pushing this one too hard. Luckily she is also at a stage where any toy will do, so we can easily swap out toys and she doesn't mind.

Happy Birthday Kyle

Kyle is finally the big 3-2. Congrats Kyle! It's been a great year, and I hope the next year holds a lot of amazing things for you. Think about where you were a year ago, just turning 31 and still carefree and going to Uber on a moment's notice. Things are definitely different for you now, but hopefully in an amazing way.

For Kyle's birthday, our friend Tory watched Sora while we went out to sushi and Uber. Kyle was so excited he couldn't decide on a restaurant and he finally chose in the car on our way out of the driveway. It was delicious and nice to have an adults only dinner for a change (but of course I thought about Sora the whole time).

Thanks again Tory!

(and in another inspiration of craftiness, the shirt Kyle is wearing in the photo is one that I made for him for his birthday)

A Girl and Her Doll

(or how Sora already doesn't appreciate her mother)

So, during my spare moments, I've lately been obsessed with crafting. I've been trying to figure out how to craft my heart out while not ignoring my poor daughter. And of course, she does not yet appreciate my hard work.

For Christmas, I made her an amazing tag monster (look at how scary he is). Sora is uninterested.
Just for fun, I made her a doll that matches her dress (that matches my shirt). Again, uninterested.
I have some fun crafts planned for her birthday next month, and for next Christmas already. Hopefully at some point she'll enjoy my hard work!

I also had time (when Sora was sleeping) to make a onsie for Baby Jace 2.0 (our friends Jace and Jess just found out they're having a boy!).
In other news, Sora is still teething and a little unhappy about it. She's still cruising around the furniture and is standing up for more and more seconds each day. She took her first step today towards the couch. Nowhere near actually walking, but one step closer!

She's also becoming much more playful. Here she is playing eat the carrot with daddy!
