Bubble Science

This year, for Sora's Science lessons, I thought it would be fun to watch an episode of Peep and the Big Wide World (one of her favorite shows) and do related explorations.

We started today with a bubble episode.

We tried making different sized bubbles with straws, open cans and PVC pipe. We made a TON of foam with some fabric stretched over a water bottle, then added food coloring for more fun!
It was a big hit! Besides being super lightheaded from all of the bubble blowing, we are excited for more science soon!

Back at Home

Our trip home was quick and packed with friends and camping. We spent a weekend camping with friends near the Grand Coolee Dam in WA before heading out East. We met some very nice people while on the side of the freeway in South Dakota - one of whom spent 2 hours and 2 trips to town in order to fix our car so we could be back on the road. We stayed with friends near Minneapolis before finally getting home.

The first thing we did was buy a new car and sell our old jeep! We are riding around in style in our new(er) Subaru Forester and are feeling like Washingtonians again.

We have been home for two weeks and are enjoying a cool Wisconsin summer. We are lucky to live on a lake and have been taking advantage of the water with many firsts: paddle boarding, kayaking (Sora was in her very own kayak), and jumping on the water trampoline.

To celebrate our anniversary, we joined some friends at a local folk festival. Sora loved listening to the native storyteller, watching the Mexican Dancers, and showing off her mad dance skills. She was pretty disappointed there wasn't any yodeling (so was I), but we all had a great time regardless.

At home,Sora has been really into doing her own projects lately and will entertain herself for an hour with scissors and some art supplies (as long as she knows what room we are all in at all times).

Vacation Part 6: Portland

For the last leg of our vacation, we headed to Portland for some sight seeing. Kyle was busy with beer all day while Sora and I played with Grandma! We had some car problems (as predicted), but we also had fun squeezing the whole city into a short weekend. Sora's favorite sights included Ikea, Costco, eating at food trucks, playing at lots of playgrounds, the Saturday Market, the street car, the children's museum, rose garden and lots of playing in water. She was a trouper and walked all over the city.

After the Oregon section of our vacation, we headed back to Washington for a few days to go camping with some friends. It was great - nice and warm with a refreshing lake to swim in that wasn't too cold for me (which is saying something). There were other kiddos to entertain Sora and other adults to entertain me and Kyle. Perfect (especially right before a long car ride)!
We managed to squeeze our trip home into 4 days instead of 6 and were home on Wednesday (despite more car problems). After a long, fun summer, we were all happy to sleep in our beds again!

Vacation Part 5: The coast

After Seattle, we headed to Newport Beach in Oregon to visit with Sora's Papa and Grandma McPherson. We had a great time playing on the sand, in the water, swimming in the hot tub, visiting the aquarium and eating lots of yummy meals with some of grandma's friends!

After the coast, we went visited some friends, then went on a camping trip more inland with several waterfalls and steams involved. No pictures, but lots of hiking memories! Portland is up next for a week, then almost home to Wisconsin! I hope you've enjoyed our journey as much as we have.
