Father Daughter Weekend

Sora has been a blur of motion lately!

We played at the tire swings on the challenge course the other day. She surprised me by being able to cross all of them without getting down.

Sora's a fan of being outside in general. She can't pass up a stage opportunity though and has started making up her own elaborate repeat-after-me style camp songs. Her favorite thing to do outside is play on her swing in the yard, but she is a great hiker and likes our daily exploratory walks around camp.
We have been doing a lot of messy play lately. Sometimes it's a little messier than others. Here she is playing with shaving cream right before deciding to pretend it was shampoo (and really take the messiness up another notch).

I love light table pictures! I'm still perfecting the technique, so it's a good think Sora likes light table projects.

Kyle took her to Father Daughter weekend at camp. She was so excited to go to the dance, play capture the flag, and sleep on the top bunk. She had a long list of other things she wanted to do, but ended up forgoing most of them to stay in the cabin and play with her new friends. These 3 girls were so sweet and kind to play with Sora all weekend. She was in friend heaven!
She has also been trained to say "Go Hawks" and wears her Seahawks dress whenever she can.
There was a lot of junk food involved, including learning what Bugles and Skittle are.
Here she is breaking out in a dance mid-project.
Much time was spent in the cave with the other girls.

She was very proud of the snail shells that she caught and painted.
Although Sora had to be reminded that it wasn't daughter/friend weekend a few times, she did a great job being fun and outgoing and had a great time with Kyle. Now if only the winter father/child weekend wasn't so far away!

With Kyle and Sora off at Father/Daughter weekend, I have a lot of free time on my hands! This means eating a lot of sugar and watching a lot of trashy TV. I took a short break from all of my hard work to gather supplies for Sora's invitation to play (inspired from this) that I was planning for Monday. It's a good thing I did, because when I looked in Sora's acorn basket (we have a loose parts area in the toy room with various supplies: acorns, shells, straws, clean recyclables, and plastic lids at the moment), I was surprised to find a few extra friends!

Yes, they are very white and wiggly and kind of gross. I hope that none of their friends found their way out of the container! And perhaps this is why the mom from my inspiration used fake acorns.

Here you can see their escape route. I had to put all of the acorns outside for fear of more wiggly creatures! Eeewww!!

Life as Usual

Without a nice camera, I don't feel obligated to take pictures of all the small stuff lately. It's both good and bad of course. This means that this will be a picture-free post, but we did finally order a new camera which should arrive very soon.

We are officially back to our old routine. Sora started swim and gymnastics class last week. We are watching Walker three days a week, are going to play group, and are having Mother/Daughter Wednesdays. Sora starts dance class in October and is very excited. She is also excited for Halloween already and is oscillating between which of her dress up outfits she will wear (since I'm taking a Halloween costume making break this year).

September is a very busy month for Kyle at work with school groups and working every weekend. This also means that Sora has gotten to enjoy a lot of camp staff and campfires. Kyle is taking her to Father/Daughter weekend here at camp and she is very excited to stay in the cabin again.

While it's always a little bittersweet when the weather turns colder and summer is over, we are also looking forward to a fun, relaxing, quiet year at camp!
