Maple Syrup

Yesterday, despite the lack of sap flowing from trees, was the Maple Syrup Festival here at camp. Kyle's in charge of the educational piece of the day and he really dressed the part.

Sora and I helped with the crafts. She also got to play outside in the snow a lot, which is always fun.

Near the end, Kyle's boss and co-workers surprised him with a tribute. Ken said some very sweet things about Kyle and gave us presents.

Then, Kyle got to lead his signature camp song. You can see by his expressions where Sora gets her dramatic flair from.

Afterwards, there was cake and ice cream.
And after the event was all finished, Sora and her friend Doreen had a spinning date. They've been meaning to get to do this for a long time now, and it was the perfect end to a great day!
While we are excited about our next chapter, there are several special people who have touched our lives while we have been in Wisconsin that we will really miss! We have been lucky to be surrounded by such a great "family" while we've been so far away from our other family.

Life as we know it

This was our last "real" week in Wisconsin. We tried to do a lot of ordinary things.

Sora declared Tuesday "backwards day". We got to go to her favorite story time at the library.
Then we got to go to the dentist (for the third week in a row!). She had a cleaning, then fillings the following week, and we had to go back to get the fillings fixed so we could actually floss in between them. Luckily, there's a sweet play area in the waiting room.

Sora's such a big kid at the dentist! She happily goes back without me (this totally freaks me out, but she's happy) and doesn't cry at all. She's very excited about the prize at the end as well as watching the TV on the ceiling during her appointment.

Sora had her last "real" dance class. Here she is with Miss Anne. We have to miss her recital, but we do get to sneak into picture day, so there will at least be some memento from dance class (besides the expensive dress I bought her).
On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Sora's friends came over for the last time. We've been watching a little boy for the past 3 years 2-3 days a week and for the past few months we also have his 3 year old cousin once a week. He is an only sibling, so he and Sora are like mock siblings at times with many ups and downs. This week was mostly ups. Sora enjoyed all the last minute projects we could throw together.
We also played outside a lot. We got 4" of snow on Friday and our power went out for 4 hours. Since the snow never melted before, another 4" didn't make a lot of difference.

Sora hates putting on all her winter clothes to go outside, but once it's done, she loves playing in the snow and mud.

Saying Goodbye

So while Kyle and I are ecstatic to be moving back to Washington, Sora is having some mixed emotions. It's hard for us to realize that Wisconsin is really the only home she remembers! We made a list of everyone and everything that we need to say goodbye to before we leave. Sora added the toy store herself - tricky girl!
The first on our list was story time. This was our last week with Miss Cindy and Sora and her friend Walker had a lot of fun. The theme was circles and Cindy served a snack of plain peas which Sora and Walker devoured 3 bowls full each! This is kind of full circle because we almost stopped going to this story time when Sora was a toddler because of the terrible snacks (there once was a GIANT marshmallow with frosting to go with it as a snack at story time).
On Saturday, we said goodbye to Sora's swim class and gymnastics class. She had recently switched to a "big kid" class and was less enamored so this wasn't a hard goodbye to say. The toy store has free projects on Saturdays, so Sora got to make a cool purse in addition to playing with all of the fun toys.

We also had to run some errands, so Sora got to practice her photography skills with Jackie.
Today we said goodbye to the candy store. It's hard to tell, but she really is happy I promise! Her favorite candy, a chocolate round with a yellow smiley face tinfoil wrapper, was gone and she was a little disappointed.

We also stopped at our favorite bar for lunch. I had the meal of a Bloody Mary (with a beer chaser in the back which of course Kyle drank for me).
Sora got to pretend to shoot stuff while Kyle finished his all you can eat wings. An excellent Wisconsin day!

It's Official

We're moving back to Washington! Kyle applied for 1 job this spring and because he's super lucky (or "super qualified"), he was offered the position. This means we'll be back in Washington in early April. We still have a lot of moving logistics to figure out and a lot of packing and cleaning to do but we are very excited. This means Sora will start Kindergarten in the fall rather than be homeschooled. It also means we'll be living in a "real" town again (some might even call it a city) and will have easy access to grocery stores, home brew shops, and good schools - things we have been sorely lacking here in the Northwoods!

Drawing Time

Sora and I have spent a lot of time drawing lately. I love Sora's interpretations on the art book we're using!

Even Kyle is joining us in the fun. It's supposed to help make us more relaxed and focused - yoga for the mind. Not sure if it's working, but some big changes are coming for our family and we need a little stress relief!
