Passion Projects - Take 2

Last year, was Sora's first year in elementary. She presented a culminating project on ice skating. She was still growing some important teeth and was super nervous so she was very hard to understand.

This year she chose turtles and she presented like a pro! Notice the fancy ballet pose with her feet while doing her presentation.
She was precise, spoke slowly and clearly, and of course was adorable! Sora has a few things coming up that she is very nervous about, and this was the first one. We spoke a lot about how being brave isn't the absence of fear, but is doing your best despite your fear. Hopefully doing so well in this will help calm her fears about her other upcoming performances.

Life as I Know It

Sora has always loved the tree in our front yard. It was one of the things that helped us choose the house and I love that she spends hours playing in it with friends and reading in it by herself.

At camp this weekend, I introduced her to the label maker. She helped label things in the office. I walked out of the office door, and this is what I saw:
At school, I recently created a bread baking work. Sora is my official tester and was sad that she didn't get a chance to test my lesson. I had a bigger plan in mind for next year involving weighing, division and braiding, so Sora still got to test a new part for me. It was amazing and delicious.
We discovered that our only true local book store offers a 20% teacher discount. They also do free gift wrapping. As it is a tradition to buy the outgoing kindergarteners a book each year, I have officially found my store.
Sora has a science book and kit which she only occasionally uses. She was in the mood the other day and I came over to find this scene:

An amazing scientist deep at work discovering properties of oil and vinegar. Amazing!

Sora is at a pretty amazing age right now. She even "lead" gaga ball at camp, apparently handling a situation involving blood in a calm manner (reminding everyone that Moose has band aids and we need to stay calm and get him). She also went on her own to make me an amazing beaded necklace for my birthday in arts and crafts while Kyle cooked food for a group and I relaxed and read. We are doing something right when it comes to parenting (and genetics)!

Games and Hiking

Sora is finally old enough to play more complex games. We have been enjoying Carcassone lately. Kyle used to always crush me at this game. Now that Sora is in the mix, it might be more varied.
Sora had a play, recorder, and dancing performance at school this week. Her grandma was able to come see her. She was very proud!
To celebrate afterwards, she enjoyed her first milkshake at Mod Pizza (she has had several milkshakes of course, but none from Mod). I am loving the heart!
My parents came up for camp work weekend. We did a lot of cleaning and organizing at camp and I am excited to spend all of my summer up there! My parents came last year too and really improved our office and living room. This year we focused on overall organization, but a lot of it impacted our house and the office.

Today, we went for a hike before they had to leave. Sora loves their dog and wanted to lead the dog on our entire hike.
She is so precious with her papa! Sora is pretty balanced in her love, even though she might show more affection to her grandma.

There were a lot of beautiful wildflowers.

There was some whining near the end, but it was a beautiful day and a great hike. Sora and I went hiking a few weeks ago at another part of the same trail system. It's my goal to hike all of the trail system this year, so hopefully we can go with Kyle in a few weeks to a new section!
